When was the last time he had been out this late? Honestly, he couldn't remember: he never had any reason to before now, and he seriously doubted his parents would've allowed him to go out, even if they knew he had a big pink spider to keep him safe.
In retrospect, that detail may have made them worry even more. And he was supposed to keep his digimon a secret from his parents, as his siblings did with theirs.
It was easier than he expected, actually: he was able to get some sleep until his partner woke him up when it was late enough that his parents would be asleep. His parents would be none the wiser, and he wouldn't be as exhausted tomorrow.
But why go through the trouble to sneak out? For one purpose: he wanted to put his cards to the test!...somewhere that wasn't inside his house. So he chose the one place he assumed nobody would be at this time: the park! Getting there wasn't a hassle - it was relatively close-by, and he had his digimon to guide him around.
"Is it just us here?" he asked. It was pretty quiet out here with only the sounds of the occasional passing car breaking the silence up, but he could never be too sure.
Kumomon looked around the area, even standing on her rear legs to get a better view. "The coast looks clear to me," she responded. Content with her search, she lowered herself down, moving back to her tamer. Neither of them did a good job of hiding their excitement, their anticipation nearly making them shake. "So, which card are we gonna try first?"
Hideo took out his d-power and his cards. He counted 13 cards that he could choose from, but he couldn't differentiate between any of them - the only divider between them was their artwork. Nothing that could help him. "I dunno...why don't you choose first?"
"Well, if you want me to choose..." She gazed over his cards, a look of glee on her face that only her partner could've missed. One card caught her eye - a picture of some cards covered in mines. "Oh, oh! This is the one with the mines on it. I want to see what this one does!"
A small laugh escaped from the boy as he put his other cards back in his pocket. "Alright, alright!" he exclaimed as he made sure he was holding the device and the card properly. He pressed the card into the the scanner portion, swiping down. The device beeped, and the two waited to see what they'd get.
And they got...nothing. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared.
The two slowly lost their smiles as they waited for something. An awkward silence was shared between the two before Hideo spoke up. "Did...did I swipe it wrong?" he wondered aloud. He tried swiping it again, this time going upwards, but was met with a digitized voice: "Error: Card already used. Please use a different card." Puzzled, he looked back up. "Do you see anything, Kuki?"
"Nope," the spider shrugged. "Maybe the card's a dud? Or it did something we don't know about?"

Tap.Black leather boots clipped softly against the sidewalk pavement in timed, unhurried steps. Wearing them was a man, tall and slender, fitted in a leather ensemble that indicated a degree of care was put into his image. If his clothes weren't convincing of this enough, his eye-catching hair style certainly would do the trick. His coat hangs draped over his shoulders, fastened at a single point as though it were a makeshift cape, swaying behind him like a superhero on the move. Yun's fixed stare suggested that he was running errands, but he had actually been in the process of contemplating a time to arrange a training session with Zubamon. Just recently, the duelist had acquired a couple packs of cards to expand on his growing collection, and some of them he simply wished to test for himself. As fate would have it, the picaresque gamer with rainbow hair caught glimpse of a small child, a boy barely older than ten, standing in the middle of the park fidgeting with what appeared to be a deck of cards and, after a bit of squinting, a D-Power of his own. And alone? Where was his Digimon partner? " Hello there!" This shouldn't have become a thing, but it had.
Somehow, going out of his home at unholy hours had become the norm for the young man in the past few days. Ever since the insect had essentially intruded into his life uninvited, the blonde had only been able to find peace outside of his no longer comfortable room. It felt like his legs had gotten more exercise in the last week than they had in the past two years.
He supposed it wasn't too bad. He didn't look forward to the exercise involved in the walks, but every time he did go outside, it seemed like he ran into some unusually interesting sight.
In the park alone he had met at least 4 different digimon tamers already. And successfully lied his way into appearing as an innocent bystander. He didn't have any dark motive for this... He just didn't want to get too involved in whatever was sure to happen. If being a digimon tamer in the real world was anything like it was in the anime... well, the shit would surely hit the fan one of these days.
And with any luck, he would have little to do with it.
That said, just because he didn't want to participate it didn't mean he wanted to be left in the dark. He was a curious fellow, and wanted to be in the know. It was after all, almost like real life anime. If he simply tried to leave it alone it would stay in his mind's backburner, constantly nagging at him.
And speaking of.
"Huh." Yet again, the park didn't fail to deliver.
He could recognize both figures standing across from one another. One was Hideo, a boy with whom he had a chess match recently. The other was...
...
Now that he thought about it, the young man with the awesome hair never did share his name with him. He did remember his partner was named Zubamon.
"Yo, Hideo." He suddenly called out, not bothering to raise his hand. The boy wouldn't notice if he did anyways. He sluggishly walked his way towards them, the tell-tale sound of his slippers against the grass hopefully telling Hideo of his approach. "Not to be condescending, but ain'tcha a bit young to be out this late?"
He then noticed Hideo's D-Arc, and the single card in his hand.
"Man, it never gets any less surprising to see one of those." He hummed, leaning back on his leg. "When I was a kid I had one made out of plastic." He snickered, "It really was nothing more than an otaku's tamagotchi. But it was fun. The Card game, though? Not so much. I preferred MtG myself."
He turned his gaze towards the man with the cool hair, raising his hand in salute.
"Hello again, cool hair man. Don't think we had a chance to really get to know one another last time. Name's Toshiro. Pleasure. Do you 'tamers' all just know one another?" It was a possibility, he guessed. Maybe there was some sort of exclusive group that could only be joined by people with digivices?
Then again, Hideo and Keiko hadn't known each other, nor had the man with the cool hair and the girl with the goggles.

An entire minute passed, and still, nothing happened. Whatever that card did - if it did anything - probably passed by now. Bummer. "We should just try something else," Hideo said, pulling the rest of his cards back out. Even if that one was a dud, he had twelve others to choose from. "See anything you'd like to try next?"Kumomon sighed. "Yeah, yeah, let's see what else you got," she said, skittering onto her partner to get a better look at what else was available, their heads close enough that their cheeks touched. She tapped on one card that got her attention, one with a picture of a sword on it, pushing it up so he'd have an easier time differentiating which one she meant. "Let's try that one Hid-"
She cut herself off, her head breaking away from his. With the way she was moving around, it was like she was using him as a platform to get a better look. The abruptness of it all surprised the boy, earning a confused response. "What's wrong? Something else catch your eye?" She remained silent, descending to the ground, focused on something.
Or as he quickly learned, someone. Someone called out to him. It was a guy, with a voice deeper than he'd expect from a teenager, asking if he was lost. An adult? All he could really tell was that this guy was walking towards him, and that Kuki brushed against him to get between him and this person. He couldn't tell she was glaring at the guy, but he heard her bluntly say, "We're not lost. You're the one who should get lost."
Before he could respond to him, another voice rang out - one he was much more familiar with. Also, it addressed him by his name, so it was obvious who was speaking to him this time. "Shiro?" he asked aloud, facing towards where he heard his voice. "I'm out here seeing what this thing can do. What are you doing out this late?"
The way he was speaking, he sounded like he met the other guy. And then he mentioned an odd word: "tamer". He heard it before - it was something one of his siblings mentioned when he was first learning about digimon. He recalled that it meant "someone that had a digimon"...
...
Hideo gasped. That guy also had a digimon? Maybe that was why Kuki was being so cautious with him.
He looked over to where the other guy was standing. It was easy to guess where he was - all he had to do feel out what direction Kuki was facing. "I'm sorry she spoke to you like that. She's just trying to keep me safe". Placing his d-power and cards in one hand, he moved to Kumomon's side with his now-free hand outstretched, an offer for a handshake with a smile, albeit with his eyes still closed. "I'm Hideo. What's your name?"
Kumomon didn't budge from her spot, her glare uphled, keeping at least some part of herself between Hideo and the multi-color-hair person who approached them. The fact he had a digimon only made him even more suspicious. She'd make sure all they did was shake hands. [attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]let us play a game [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"]Yun finds a verbal dagger being plunged into his chest without any delay from the pinkish, multi-legged form that skitters close to the child, which he recognizes as a Digimon, even at a distance. He raises his hands up as if to surrender, then merely turns on his heels and walks away without another word, the duelist's face morphing into a mixed expression of mild surprise and discomfort. How uncivilized. Just as he prepares to leave for good, another voice calls out to the boy with closed eyes with the name 'Hideo', the latter responding with 'Shiro'. If anything, it relieves Yun to know he wasn't the child of some parent who wandered too far and got lost, eventually revealing that little Hideo had been experimenting with a set of cards. Yet another fan of Japan's most popular tabletop card game. --But then he gets dragged back into the social foray against his will, and his body finds itself slowing down to pause. It sounded like this newcomer recognized him from before, based on his somewhat apt nickname of 'cool hair guy'. As Yun turns to see who it is, his facial features lose some of their frigidity: it was that boy he had ran into a while ago. Fuzzy slippers, blond hair, and possibly malodorous. As Toshiro introduces himself properly, Yun's adherence to social courtesy gets the better of him. " Yoshimasa Yun, the pleasure is mine as well," he says in a low, cool tone of voice. " And, that depends on who you know." He glances at Hideo as he says this. The pinkish arachnid, however, refused to show him any kind of friendliness, maintaining a stance that seemed to imply she was ready to lunge at any possible moment. Could she sense Zubamon's presence, even though he was nowhere to be found? Even as Hideo apologized for his partner's somewhat churlish behavior, Yun couldn't bring himself to begrudge the Digimon for showing concern over the boy's safety, yet still felt the vicious heat of her stare, as if she were still demanding that he leave. If looks could kill, not even the likes of Medusa herself could stand a chance. Yun casts an awkward glance in no particular direction. " Should I go? I mean-- I get it, I'm not the most inconspicuous-looking person here," He looks up at his jagged golden bangs for emphasis. It looked like he had walked into a rather tense moment. Hideo's partner seemed to be in the process of burning holes into cool haired dude's, now known as Jun, back. It appeared that heat vision was not one of its powers, thankfully. the leather on the multi-color haired young man looked expensive.
Speaking of whom, his words shortly after presenting himself were a bit cryptic.
"Only really know like four tamers myself, to be frank. And a lone digimon. That Kotemon was interesting." He muttered absentmindedly in response to those words, taking them at face value. Scratching at his chin, he decided to bring up the exit other's dramatic exit last time they met.
"Oh yeah. Hope you managed to deal with... whatever you had to deal with that night." It had seemed rather serious, and the exit that preceeded it rather heroic. Golden armor rookie had looked a lot cooler than loud beetle rookie that night, and it still did.
Hideo's response to his question prompted a tilted brow from the blond. Trying out... Cards?
"Oh? Are those supposed to do anything?" He asked, this time genuinely curious. He had seen the slit on his digivice, but hadn't thought TCG cards were the one thing he was supposed to slide through it. Man, if he hadn't known any better, he would have thought the digivice was a marketing stunt.
"So what did the card do, then?" He asked curiously, stepping closer to the kid to look at the cards more closely. He then remembered he had been asked something as well. "I am doing nothing as grand as training, by the by. Just escaping from my self imposed, crappy work hours again." He confessed to the boy, moving to shrug his shoulders before stopping halfway. It wasn't like body language would be of any use here. "Though I'll admit, was hoping something like this would happen again, too." Running into tamers, that is.
He scratched at his cheek slowly, "Tamers seem to be more active during night time. It's fun... to see digimon in real life, I mean. Makes my life a little less boring." Not a complete lie, either. He did like watching digimon other than his own, and would have loved watching them fight. He just didn't care for being part of the action -and possibly getting hurt-.
"Maybe it would be best if your friend came out again?" The little spider did look a bit on edge. Maybe it felt the other rookie's dangerous presence? Or well, what he assumed to be dangerous anyways. It certainly looked the part.

Had he known that Kumomon looked like she was about to pounce on the guy at any moment, he'd have directly asked her to stop being so aggressive. Though he had been taught to be wary of strangers, they were almost always pleasant to deal with. This guy hadn't been aggressive or mean at all, so while the caution was understandable, it felt excessive.
His hand descended as Yun kept his distance. So much for the handshake. It sounded like he was going to leave at any moment now. "No, no! It's ok! You can stay if you want to. I promise she won't hurt you!"
He spoke with a more hushed voice, so only Kuki could hear him. "Don't worry about him: If he was gonna hurt us, he'd have done something by now." Not that he actually thought
A small sigh from his partner. "I don't see his digimon anywhere. I guess he's fine if he's alone, but I'm still gonna keep an eye out for anyone else." When he felt her move back a little - still close to him - he breathed a sigh of relief.
The death-stare she'd been giving Yun was broken. For now. She'd be on the lookout for any digimon that appeared. Chances were whatever came at them would be Yun's partner. "I tried one card," he responded, patting his pocket where he left the used card. "We've been waiting for something to happen, but nothing's happened. This thing says it read the card right, so I dunno what the problem is. She said it was a card with mines on it, but it didn't sound like there's anything going on." Really, he wished there was something on the card that would tell him what it would do.
Which it did - there was text on the card that explained its effects - but that didn't really help him.
He shrugged. "I was going to try another card to see if it's just the card that's the issue. You can stay and watch if you want!" He looked back to where Kuki had pointed before - where he thought Yun still was. "You can watch too if you want, Mister Yoshimasa. I promise she won't bite!" [attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]let us play a game [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"]Yun could definitely feel a tangible conflict of interests between the young child and his eight-legged pink friend, possibly suggesting that the two of them had recently become acquainted with one another or had yet to establish a close bond. It certainly puts the spider's intensity into greater context, but the duelist personally wanted to walk away from this conversation without his leather ensemble getting torn to shreds. Or sticky with arachnid webbing... Reminded of his uncharacteristically discourteous departure from their earlier run-in, Yun nods to Toshiro in acknowledgement, " Yes, I must apologize for leaving without first establishing context," he said in soft reflection. " Zubamon had sensed that we were being followed, and I didn't want to involve all of you." He intentionally refrains from disclosing the details regarding who--or what--was chasing him. The less they knew, the safer they would be. At least, that was the running theory. These last couple of days have really been putting Yun's belief in consistency to the test, though. Perhaps it would be wiser to set aside the major puzzle at hand in favor of assisting these two with something well within his element? Applying his observation skills to the conversation, Yun learned from Hideo's explanation that he had scanned a card depicting mines with his Digivice, although nothing seemed to be generated from the swipe. The duelist tilts his head in contemplation as the boy with closed eyes suggests scanning another card, but a stroke of insight motivates causes him to clap his hands sharply. " Wait!" Yun shouts softly, now fully motivated to remain where he stood to prevent Hideo from doing anything sudden. Toshiro, however, didn't appear to have any cards on him, so the odds that he would contribute to the situation were lower. " Before you do, what was the card's name? If it's what I think it is, I suggest you wait for a few more minutes before scanning another card. Trust me on this one." He nods to his other acquaintance, still somewhat questioning of his intended role in the grand scheme of things. "That's fine, man. I would have probably been boned if something dangerous enough to worry a 'digimon' came even close to us. Thanks for keeping us out of it." He said in response to Jun, looking him up and down. "You seem to be fine too, so everything turned out all right, no?"
Hideo then mentioned the apparent lack of effect the card had.
So maybe you weren't supposed to... 'slash(?) cards across the Digivice? It certainly seemed to have no effect. Where the cards really nothing more than a really bizarrely designed TCG after all? Only one way to find out.
"Sure kid, I'll be happy to stay. Seems like it'll be interesting. Pop another one in the thing and try again." He encouraged the boy, watching curiously for whichever cards he would pick.
He knew a fair bit about the anime, but he didn't know nearly as much about the TCG. All he knew about it where the few cards he had, which he had obtained years ago from cheap, 3 and 5 card packs.
Cool hair -that is- Jun, however, was against slashing another card. He... knew something they didn't, clearly. He hoped Hideo's partner wouldn't go against his words just to antagonize him.
"Now that I think about it, these old cards do have some descriptions on 'em, right? Let me check that card of yours, Hideo. If ya don't mind, course." With any luck, if the little spider was still feeling testy over Jun, it would take pause where he was concerned.
Without a digimon (and his was never with him), he really was just a normie who played mediocre chess. Nothing to be too concerned about.

Hideowas glad that Yun decided to stick around for a bit longer. From how it sounded, he and Toshiro had met each other a while back. Even get out of a sticky situation from the help of a digimon called "Zubamon". Was that Yun's digimon partner?
He had to wonder, just how many digimon were in this city right now? He was told there was a lot, but he was never given a specific number.
He smiled and nodded when Toshiro urged him to try out a new card. He felt around for a card to try next, and his hand bumped against the card that Kuki wanted him to try next before Toshiro and Yun arrived. He didn't know what card it was, but she seemed pretty excited when she picked it out, so it must have been something good.
And he would have used it right then and there, had Yun not shouted at him to stop, urging him not to use any more cards for a few more minutes. "Oh, um...I don't know what the card's name was," was all he could say in response, frazzled by the sudden shouting. All he knew was that small description Kuki gave him right before he used it. Even Toshiro was urging him to wait a moment before using the next card, offering to read it for him.
"I'll be the one reading it," Kumomon said, crawling back onto her partner's back so her head was level with his. "Hideo, let me see what that card says."
Obediently, he took out the used card, holding it up so that his partner would be able to read it, which she did out loud.
"Card Mine:" Yes, he knew that's what it was called. "Deals a moderate amount of irreducible damage-" Nobody was hurt, so it only made him wonder how it was supposed to do that. "-to the digimon-" Even Kuki said she didn't notice anything, so that didn't really answer much. "-belonging to the next person to swipe a card within the next 3 turns."
Silence filled the air when she read that last part. While Hideo simply adopted a neutral expression, Kumomon's was a significantly-more dramatic jaw drop. "Does...does that affect the person that used it too?" he asked, though it was more of a rhetorical question. Of course it would hurt the user too. "And three turns? I was told this was a card game, but does that mean 3 minutes in real life?"
He'd have to hope the other two guys knew a lot more about these cards than he did. BS106 - CARD MINE - Effect ended; nobody activated within time limit. 4 Swipes Remaining. [attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]let us play a game [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"]Though Yun cared little for the spider Digimon's perceived grudges against him, he would not have spoken up unless there was plenty of reason for him to, and thankfully Toshiro seemed willing to act as a second voice of reason for the child and his overbearing arachnid. But it was the eight-legged creature's next order to the schoolboy that seized Yun's full attention, since she was also the one to insist on reading the swiped card's effect rather than provide Toshiro with the chance to simply take the card and run, despite the latter having just admitted a lack of standing interest in the game. Plus, it was somewhat dark out. Hideo probably couldn't see the card, let alone either of the older two males. Eventually, Yun's suspicions would be confirmed the moment Hideo's pink-toned partner read aloud the name Card Mine. He pretended to wipe a bead of sweat from his brow, indicative of the proverbial bullet having, indeed, been dodged. " That's about right, Hideo-san," the duelist affirms, retrieving his own set of cards as well as a shape everyone ought to be familiar with by this point: a D-Power Digivice, physically similar to the one owned by the boy and perhaps even Toshiro, its only noticeable difference being the ring of solid gold looped around its liquid crystal display. " With a D-Power's card reader, these are no longer just slips of stock for a game, but a veritable arsenal of weapons and tools for battle." To demonstrate, Yun riffles through his cards and pulls the equipment card Shogun Sword W, sliding it through the Digivice's reader with a fluid movement of his hand. Sparks fly from the gizmo, and in the blink of an eye, glittering clusters of ones and zeroes pile together to form an immense Japanese-style katana, fit for the hands of a true warrior. Of course, the duelist lacked the strength necessary to appropriately swing or brandish the weapon, so he merely allowed the point of the blade to embed itself into the ground with a mighty thunk as soon as it fully materializes. From an outsider's point of view, such acts could only be perceived as a type of occult sorcery, forbidden magic the likes of which no human being, young or old, should ever have access to. "How much time has passed since it activated? Maybe your Digivice has a counter on its screen?" Surely the thing had some way to keep track of this.
Perhaps Jun would shed some light on it all. It certainly seemed like he knew what he was talking about. And from what he was saying, it appeared that those cards he had dumped on an old shoebox in his closet were far more amazing than he had thought.
Speaking of Amazing. Holy shit.
'That is awesome.' Thought the young man as the massive katana planted itself unto the soil. He refrained from saying anything though. He wasn't sure if it would be too insensitive to Hideo if he began raving on how amazing and cool it looked.
But damn, he definitely wanted to grab that thing. Every bone in his body was ordering him to grab the sword and pose dramatically with it.
"That's, that's just...! ... Damn." Katanas were just about every weeb's dream weapon, and the blonde young man wasn't much of an exception. If this had been the only Katana he had ever seen in his life, he may actually have been inclined to believe that old copy pasta roaming the web about katanas and roleplaying games.
"So THIS is what cards can do, huh? I'm so jealous right now." It was just... too damn cool. Deadly too, and certainly suggested the D-arc was a weapon more than anything. But still...! So damn cool!
"Uh..." He fiddled with his fingers awkwardly, looking up, down, and just about everywhere except at Jun's face. "Could I like, grab it and stuff?" 'Stuff' possibly being dramatic posing.

Sounded like this thing was a lot stronger than he had expected. He really had no idea just what his cards were capable of - that was what he was here to try out today. From the way Yun described it, though, it sounded like it was a pretty serious. As if he misused it, he could hurt someone really badly.
While Kumomon watched intently as Yun slashed one of his owns cards as an example, Hideo had to work on what he could hear. He heard what sounded like a combination of beeping and the sound of sand being poured into a container. It slowed down for a moment, then stopped completely. Soon, it was followed by the sound of something heavy hitting stabbing into the ground, causing the boy to jump up in surprise.
"I'm impressed," he heard his partner say, "That looks like an actual sword." Oh, wow. Yun made an actual sword, just from a card and a digivice of his own? With the way Toshiro was gushing over it, it had to have been an actual sword. That part about it being an arsenal of weapons and tools wasn't just a metaphor, it seemed.
"Hey, Hideo. Try swiping the card I picked out for you." his partner requested, earning a moment of hesitation from the child. He couldn't help but feel a little reticent to use another card, now that he knew it could actually be a risk if he wasn't careful.
"Has it been long enough?" he asked. A question to give himself a little more time to think, but a question he did legitimately have. Even if Toshiro was right about there being a timer on his Digivice, if it didn't say anything to him, then it didn't help.
"He just swiped a card of his own. If the effect didn't run out by now, he'd have triggered it, so we're fine." He could feel her drop off of him, hearing the tapping of her feet against the ground as she walked in front of him. "Don't worry: the card I picked out'll be safe. I made sure to read it this time."
Well, as long as he didn't risk accidentally blowing someone up, it was fine, right? He nodded, picking out the card he felt out beforehand. It took him a brief moment to line the card up with the scanner, and once he did, he swiped the card down as he did with the last one. The sound of beeping and sand happened just as before, but it seemed to go on for much longer than when Yun swiped his card. But it ended all the same, and he prepared himself for the same sound of something hitting the ground hard, but was met with just silence.
He was unable to behold the sight of a small pink spider half his size holding onto a magnificent golden blade more than twice as tall as he was. "Hideo, you have to check this out!" he heard his partner exclaim. He could hear her approach him, though her steps sounded a lot...heavier? "Here, it's right in front of you."
He reached out in front of him, and his hand met with a large metallic helix. He felt it down, going all the way down to where his ankles, then going as far up as his hands could reach. Both paths lead to bladed ends (though Kuki was careful to make sure he didn't cut himself on either of them), with him only just barely managing to meet with the blade on top. He could only imagine how much further it went. He grabbed the helix part and tried to push it around, but it wouldn't even budge - this thing was heavy. "Kuki...how can you even carry something like this?!" he exclaimed, wondering how she was strong enough to lift it, before a more logical question arose. "How are you even holding it? You don't have hands!"
"My legs are more flexible than you'd think! And it's not thaaaat heavy." She moved it around as if it was just a large pole, the ends of her two front legs bending to keep a grip on it. She turned towards Yun and Toshiro, a smug grin on her face. "So what do you guys think? Better than that little blade you got there, huh?" [attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]let us play a game [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"]Toshiro expressed nothing short of complete amazement upon having witnessed the D-Power's true potential revealed to him, whereas the younger schoolboy's sassy pink spider friend verbally went out of her way to reaffirm that Yun had, indeed, created a sword out of thin air. Of all three reactions Yun received the moment he summoned forth Musyamon's soul-devouring blade, only Hideo's features -- or, rather, the near-complete absence of them, bar his ever-closed eyelids -- gave the duelist reason even more reason to be curious than he had been this entire night. The razor-haired man quietly watches the conversation unfold between Hideo and his Digimon, paying close attention to the way they interacted with each other to ascertain an accurate read of their relationship. Compared to the boy who made very little attempts to shift his location or move, it might have appeared that the arachnid Digimon held a domineering role at first. She was even giving him commands like he was the Digimon, doing so in a voice that Yun could liken to that of a bigger sister, or perhaps even a surrogate mother figure. Perhaps it was an unfortunate side effect of playing strategy games for as long as he had, although Yun could count more times than there were fingers on both hands where his overcritical frame of thinking had saved his life in the field. Appearances were often deceiving, and this particular encounter was quickly proving itself to be yet another one of these moments. The boy slides another card into his own Digivice at the request of his companion, and just as the duelist had done, a magnificent helix-shaped blade in black and gold materialized from an even larger cluster of binary coding and directly into the spider's grasp. Based on how grandiose the weapon was and how effortlessly Hideo's Digimon swung it around, that card had to have been significantly rarer than his Shogun Sword W. Sure, it was definitely impressive, but the pink spider's smug attitude wasn't precisely setting a good example for her Tamer. Instead, Yun turns to the blond boy with the newly-gained impression that he was possessed of an otaku's tendencies, and chuckled. " Certain weapons may require more or less physical brawn than others," the leather-clad cardsharp explains coolly, glancing over at the glittering monstrosity of a sword Hideo had summoned for further elaboration, " but you're more than willing to give it a try, if you like." Yun wasn't here to have a pissing competition with anyone, and certainly not with a Digimon. Trying to even remotely compare himself to a non-human creature that was obviously stronger and deadlier than himself, even a Rookie, would be an attempt to tilt at windmills. Not if her Tamer had anything to say about it, anyway. At least, Yun had genuinely hoped that that would be so, if it did happen. He's been wrong plenty of times, though. Jun had produced a Katana out of thin air. Hideo proceeded to summon a he didn't know what. It was a magnificent, extremely detailed and gilded... Axe. Nobody on earth could convince him that thing was sword.
Either way, it was awesome.
Also very unlikely he could wield the thing. Actually, it seemed entirely unlikely the spider could, either. The entire thing seemed otherworldly, as if it belonged to something far above any of their stations.
He felt like if he had been paying more attention to the more modern stuff from the digimon franchise he would have known what it was.
Of course, the spider just had to be smug about it.
"Humility is a man's greatest virtue." He suddenly said, holding his palms outwards in a manner mimicking the Buddah's golden statue, eyes closed and all Zen like. Then a single eye poked open.
"That is absolutely badass, though." He would give them that much. He patted Hideo on the head.
"Man, you must have some luck on the draw when buying cards. I still remember the first packs I ever bought back when the anime was still the hottest thing on TV. Man, those cards were absolute trash." He snickered at the memory.
His young self had managed to sneak himself enough money (and time) to buy some of the cards the kids at school were rambling about.
Talk about a big disappointment.
Enough about reminiscing, however. Cool hair guy (THE MEMES WILL NEVER DIE) Jun had actually given him the okay to try his hand at the sword. Needless to say, the blonde felt something akin to excitement fill him, a grin tugging weakly at his lips.
"Brawn, huh? Been a while since I've done any physical stuff..." He was much taller and slightly heavier than he had been two years past, yet, he was paradoxically much weaker and slower as well.
Time to see how two years of couch potato tendencies stacked up to 10 years of obligatory sports excellency.
The blonde grasped the handle of the katana almost daintily, admiring the craftsmanship as much as his untrained, inexperienced eye could.
"Well... here, goes... nothing!" Tug. Tug. Tug.
The sound of soil being displaced followed as the blonde yanked the sword out of the ground, his muscles exerting themselves underneath his hoodies' long sleeves. It wasn't exactly a lightweight, but he could give it a few good swings, the blonde felt.
"Woah..." He felt compelled to do something fancy, such as flipping the blade in his hold. But frankly, he had never handled a sword in his life, and he feared he could harm Hideo. Jun and Kuki both looked like they could handle themselves. The boy wouldn't even see it coming if he messed up.
"Man. You tamers lead the most interesting lives, huh?" He tried not to think too much of how boring and mundane his usual existence was, nor how cool being tamer was beginning to appear.
Being a tamer was dangerous. The anime and just about every supplemental material on digimon had made that very clear. Joining just for the excitement wouldn't be worth the troubles it would bring into his life...
Probably.
He gave the sword a sudden, practice swing, muscles burning as the sword came to a prompt stop, before he stabbed it back onto the ground.
"How dangerous is this tamer life, anyways?" He asked, the question mostly directed to Jun. Hideo didn't look like he had been in the 'game' for too long, though appearances could have been deceiving.
