What a beautiful Sunday morning it was today. Even if he couldn't see the cloudless blue sky or take in the beautiful green of the park, Hideo could hear the birds chirping and take in the smell of the crisp air. As crisp as it could be in a park stuck somewhere in a city as dense as Tokyo.
Hideo himself was sitting on one of the chairs, quietly sitting with his eyes closed. He wanted to spend some time outside, something his parents allowed - provided he went there with one of his siblings. And they chose Kara, one of his brothers, to be his chaperone.
Naturally, Kara left him at the park the first chance he got, saying that he had some "business" to take care of and that he'd be back once he was done.
But he wasn't completely alone.
"I can't believe Kara just left you here," Kuki spoke from his lap, irritation clear in her voice. She had assumed a smaller form - in-training as she called it - so it was less obvious that she was a living creature. And to be fair, she did feel like a stuffed toy while she was like this, so chances are that's what people assumed she was.
"It's ok," he said, patting his partner on the back, "I know he'll come back. He always comes back for me when he says he has business." It had to be important business anyways.
Lazily, his legs dangled from the chair until one of them bumped into something metal right in front of him. A table - and a pretty heavy one at that. Carefully, he poked around the top of it to see if anything was on it, and his hand met with some smooth ceramic objects. Most of them were round on top, but some had different shapes on them. Some had little squares on top, others had crosses, and those two felt like little crowns...
Oh! It was a chess table! He heard that this park had those, but this was the first time he actually found one of them. He knew how the game was played - one of his sisters taught him a while back. It was something she said he was actually pretty good at - better than most people that just started. It'd be a good way to pass the time. But the only issue was it's a two-player game. Maybe Kuki could play it with him?No, that'd be a bad idea. He was told digimon weren't supposed to be out in the open like this. The current disguise seemed to be effective since he didn't hear anybody say anything about her yet, but he wasn't sure how he'd justify a stuffed spider moving on its own and playing chess with him.
Maybe he could get Kara to play a game of it with him when he got back from his business? @anyone that wants to join » made by wizzCards:

He was making slipping away from the giant bug an art form, at this rate.
Tokyo was looking beautiful on that fine day, but Toshiro couldn't really appreciate it, tired and sluggish as he was feeling. The clear sky just allowed the sun to glare down on him, and the lack of exercise he had given his legs lately was making it hard to walk straight.
Once again, he had essentially been forced to leave the house to escape the annoying beetle living in his room. It surely wasn't as likely to follow him out of the building during daytime! Wouldn't want to be seen by humans, right?
He hoped.
The park was becoming one of his most visited places lately. He didn't go out often though, so it wasn't like it had much competition. Now that his mind was clearing slightly, he could appreciate the crisp air and the warmth of the sun light on his back much more.
As he stumbled around the park, looking for a place to seat, he found himself staring at a lone child. It was a rare sight; he didn't look much older than 10, yet there didn't seem to be any guardians around.
His eyes moved from the boy to the chess table near him, dully noting the way the boy felt the chess pieces. Staring at the pieces made his eyes glass over, a few memories of the times he had played chess in the past popping up rather suddenly in his head.
He found himself walking towards the boy, hands in his large hoodie's pockets. "Oi." He spoke up, waving his hand at the child amicably, before gesturing with his chin at the table. "You up for a game? It's been a while since I've played, but I think I'm still somewhat good." He said. He blinked after a few seconds, scratching at his chin absentmindedly. "Oh yeah. Name's Toshiro. Pleasure."

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Keiko liked the night better. Even though she couldn't look at the stars like she could in the country, it had a more refreshing, colder light than a sunny day. But it was better for reading. She was currently doing homework in the shade of a tree, sitting in your typical wheelchair with a huge bag strapped across the back. Maybe it was the swaying spots of light from the leaf-filtered sun, but the bag seemed to move. Just every once in a while. The pencil was feverishly dashing down the page, with that scratchy handwriting that was legible but not appealing. In her other hand was a copy of Frankenstein, in English, as she skimmed for that one quote she was citing in this one discussion question she was on. She already knew the language, so she had her workload switched over to English Literature. Reading the work in its original language was almost cheating. The book thwacked shut in her had and she slowly moved her head to look over her shoulder. There, staring at her, was this smoldering gear-shaped eye. While its mouth could not smile or frown, it could display happiness by chattering the opening. it didn't need to move its mouth to speak, which could be a bit uncanny, but Vulcan was so warm to her that it didn't faze her at this point. "Vulcan, dear, please stow this and don't burn it, I need it for class tomorrow." She whispered to the cog like she was telling a secret, with this smile on her face like she was doing something wrong. Keiko was finally bringing Vulcan outside of the Headquarters and the school or other little hiding spots. He was with her, actually with her and ready but even though he was in a little back, he was right there for her. Could hear her sing to herself as she blazed through her homework, could have little conversations when she hit a snag. Vulcan had his own sun. "Yes, Miss Keiko, but you finished it kind of fast." "Well, that little boy over there seems to have a challenger. I'd like to go watch.""Of course, just knock for me to stop." And they rolled. One of the interesting things about Vulcan was that he could hover a meter or two off the ground. Tucked away in the bag, he could easily push against her back to wherever she needed to go. Sometimes she mimed the movement to not catch an eye or two and whenever she needed to come to a stop she just: Knock, knock against the arm rest and there she was, pulled aside the little boy. "OI"
Hideo was caught off-guard when he heard someone's voice, reflexively facing towards the source, much closer than the ones that likely belonged to the other park visitors. He could feel Kuki move ever so slightly, probably to keep watch of them. He was clearly older than him - his voice sounded kinda deep - but not an adult.
It was soon followed by a simple request, one that made the boy smile: to play a game of chess.
"Of course I'm up for a game!" he beamed. He looked back to the chess table, carefully feeling the board to make sure each piece was in place. It seemed like each square was indented - probably a precaution to help keep each piece upright in case someone accidentally bumped into them. Or maybe it was there to help seeing-impaired people know where the squares were.
It'd definitely serve the latter purpose today.
As he began to move the pieces around, the other boy introduced himself. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mister Toshiro," he responded as the piece in his hand, a knight, was placed down with a *clank*, "My name's Hideo."
As he placed each piece down in their spots, he heard what sounded like wheels getting closer to him, and then a *knock knock* from right next to him. It couldn't have been from Toshiro - he was on the other side of him. His assumption was proven correct when its source spoke - a girl simply asking if she could watch them play. "I didn't expect there to be an audience," he said, "but sure! You can watch us." Well then, now he had to give a good show for them!
Soon, each piece was in its place - or rather, each type of piece was where they were supposed to be. He'd accidentally mixed up some of the white pieces with the black ones, leaving each side with a mish-mash of black and white pieces instead of the uniform colors they were meant to have.
That didn't stop the satisfied grin on his face, born from the belief he had been able to set up the board himself. At the very least, they were all pointing in the right direction - each piece had an addition design that would indicate which direction they were facing - so he'd know which pieces were his and which weren't.
Of course, he still wasn't sure how this was going to start. It was supposed to depend on the color, but he couldn't recall which it was. Not that remembering would help him. "So, I'm a little rusty on the rules. Which of us is supposed to go first?" Kojima Keiko, Toshiro Emiya, @one more person » made by wizz

He seemed like a nice kid. Wasn't even put off by having a complete stranger approach him for a game. Toshiro reflexively smiled back at the kid, though he was beginning to notice the fact that he never seemed to open his eyes.
When he began feeling around the table, the reason became rather obvious. Toshiro had just enough tact to not ask. Taking his seat by the child, he let him organize the table in silence, not commenting as he mixed up a few of the pieces, instead silently changing them for the appropriate ones.
As they continued to organize the pieces in silence, someone approached them. A wheelchair bound girl. Toshiro stared at her as she and the boy -Hideo, his mind reminded him- exchanged a few words. He hadn't expected an audience, but he guessed it was fine.
They resumed organizing the pieces, Toshiro silently correcting Hideo's fumbles. The pleased grin on the boy as he finished made the young man smile himself, leaning back against his chair.
The question that came next would have been silly from anyone else but the kid. "You've got the white pieces, so You first." He informed the boy, turning his gaze towards the chess table. It had been a while since he had played, though he still remembered how each piece moved. He just wondered if his rusty mind was ready for the mental gymnastics required to plan two, three or more moves ahead of his opponent.
'Probably not.' Didn't really matter, it was just a friendly game at the park.
"So." He started, waiting for the boy to make the first move. "What'cha either of you doing at the park, if you don't mind me asking? I was just taking a walk to get my mind off... work." Yeah, that sounded about right. "Sitting in front of a laptop all day gets boring." Not really, but the annoying Bug screaming at you while you did certainly didn't make the endeavor worth it.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Good gracious, he was cute. So excited, so anxious, Hideo had absolutely won over a genuine, broad smile from Keiko, but as she watched him set the board, it faltered just a moment. Her eyes darted over to the blonde-haired gentleman, to see if he was about to say something. He stayed quiet, only taking his seat and color-correcting the pieces. She gave a very quiet, very slight nod to him. Her eyes spoke volumes of respect to a young man with such tact. However, when she looked back to the boy, his tactile senses were impressive for someone so young; it almost made her believe that he was born blind. Yet, she didn't want to think that. No god could be that cruel. If the white pieces had not been painted and just sealed wood, she had no doubt Hideo could've set it accurately. It was an unfortunate thing. She'd seen so many since she was bound to a chair, more than she thought actually suffered from blindness. It wasn't pity she felt, just sadness that the affliction existed. Early in her therapy, it was drilled that no matter what people suffered from, they could lead fufilling lives. What she did for the Web Troopers every night and this boy's unrestricted joy were a testament to this. Last night...she yawned into the back of her hand just remembering last night. She had only worked for a couple hours but it really was starting to take a toll. She let them start the game as she looked over her shoulder, and there was that happy little cog. "Those snacks, Vulcan, let me have them," she whispered. Out of the tiny slit rose a small lunch bag, which she then unzipped and dispensed two small bags of cookies and two cartons of milk. She had brought them for homework, but she got so caught up in it she had neglected to eat them. She put one for each player on the table, tapping next to them on Hideo's side so he knew they were there. "I unfortunately couldn't escape my work, no matter how far I got from my room. HideO had been so proud that he was able to set the table up himself that he completely failed to notice the sound of the older boy adjusting the pieces for him, his unbridled excitement dulling his senses. It was going to be the first time he ever played against someone other than his sister. Maybe he had a chance at winning?
Hideo nodded as he was told he'd get to go first, since his pieces were white. But he was also asked another question by the other guy, about why he (and the girl next to him) were at the park. "Me?" It took him a moment to come up with a reason, and he chose the simplest, and truest, one.
"I came here because I wanted to spend some time outside on my day off from school." It wasn't an outright lie: he did want to be outside on his day off. He would've loved to stay here all day (until he got hungry), but he was just gonna be here until Kara came back. Which probably wouldn't be for a while. But he knew saying that his brother just left him here wouldn't sound right no matter how he worded it, so he just left that part out.
For a moment, he swore he heard the girl whisper a name. Vulcan, was it? Was there another person watching the game with them? That marked a second audience member - a third if he counted Kuki.
Just before he could think about his first move, he heard a tap on the side of the table where he heard the girl's voice. Was she telling him he forgot something? Just to make sure, he reach around the area where he heard the tapping - and his hand met with a carton and a cookie. Did she leave those there for him? "Thanks, Miss!" he expressed, looking over to his side where he assumed the girl still was. Now he really had to give her a good show!
Actually, on that thought, he realized Kuki was going to have a hard time watching their game if she just stayed on his lap the entire time. Just as long as she stayed still, they wouldn't think she was a living creature, right?
He felt out for an open spot on the table to place her on, and quickly found one. He scooted his chair forward a little and picked her off his lap, placing her on top of the table so she'd be facing the board. "You mind if I put her here?" he asked, "I just wanna make sure that...I don't have to keep making sure she doesn't fall off my lap while we play."
He had no way of knowing about Kuki's uncomfortable expression.
And with that, he'd make his first move: moving the pawn in front of his king two spaces forward. It was the opening his sister taught him was a good one to make - it'd give his queen, his strongest piece, an opening to get moving. Kojima Keiko , Toshiro Emiya , @one more person » made by wizz Toshiro Emiya read this So I was thinking, instead of playing out an entire game of chess step by step (and reveal how bad I am at it), I was thinking we just roll dice and whoever gets a higher number wins a round - first to 3 wins...wins, and we rp depending on how the other person rolled. We can just use a d20 to keep the numbers closer.
I'll start.

"Yup." Replied the blonde young man with a nod and a smile, leaning forward and placing his elbows onto the table, leaning his cheek onto his fist. He hummed at the answer, ignoring the short pause the child took to think. "Day off, huh?" He didn't even know why chatting with this kid was making him somewhat nostalgic.
His childhood certainly had no 'days off' he could remember.
"Well, it does seem like a nice day to take a walk. At the risk of sounding cliche, the weather's pretty nice." He chortled at his own words.
A cartoon of milk and a pack of cookies was suddenly laid onto the table. A snack for the kid? Guess the lady was liking him as much as he was. He had to pause when she laid some of those snacks on his side of the table, however.
The young man stared at the snacks laid on his side blankly, a nonplussed expression slapped onto his face. Were those for him? Apparently so. "Uh. Thank you." He mumbled to the girl while nodding her way, not questioning her gift. He didn't really know how to reject people's generosity, so he may as well just roll with it.
He shuddered the moment the word 'literature' escaped her lips, his brow twitching slightly. She looked young, so he guessed he shouldn't be surprised she was a student. "English Literature... Depressing..." He mumbled, scratching at his chin. His mind spat out one of the books he had read while learning english all those years back. It certainly was depressive. "Macbeth?" He guessed with a shrug. Probably not, but it was as good a lead for conversation as any.
At that moment Hideo laid a plush onto the table. He hadn't seen it before, hidden in his lap as it was. Strange choice for a kid's plush. Even now, almost a full grown man, Spiders still creeped the crap out of him. But then again... "Sure. Nice plush, by the way. Very cute. Never seen one of those on the stores before." He would have thought it would be a hit with little kids; seemed cute enough. "Someone in your family make it for you?" They must have been pretty talented sewers, whoever they were. Strange choice for an expression, though. The plush looked... constipated.
The kid made the first move soon after laying the plush, prompting a hum from the bleached blonde. Pretty standard opening. Freed the queen and a bishop. Was he going for an Scholar's mate? It was about the first thing one learned in chess. He guessed it didn't matter. "Pawn E-6." He mirrored the young boy, moving the pawn in front of the king one step forward, freeing his bishop and Queen.
"So, how long have you been playing for, Hideo? I started learning when I was about your age, I think. Maybe a bit younger." The boy looked like... ten, maybe?
"Been about two years since I've played seriously, though. Don't be too surprised if you whoop the table with my king." he chuckled, leaning his head back onto his fist. Yeah, he was definitely out of practice. Or maybe motivation? Either way, he couldn't really bring himself to try and plan his moves ahead.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ "You're very welcome, young man!" Vocally, Keiko managed to match Hideo's own enthusiasm, cause dang it, so cute. The older blonde seemed...out of it. As she gave Hideo a bubbly you're welcome, she nodded to Emiya as well. Maybe he was just a jaded teenager, it wasn't anything new or worrying and he did say he was working what must've been some harsh hours. She'd excuse the non-jubilent response for now. Then Emiya made it a little easier to read him. Hearing about schoolwork made him visually shiver, like he had eaten some bad curry. She made this slight 'a-ha' face; he was a much more 'relaxed' individual and there was nothing wrong with that. It wasn't like he was pretending to be anything other. "No, nonono, not Macbeth. Thankfully. Shakespeare gets a little stale. It's Frankenstein. It's sad to think of being created with no purpose." Her voice was cool and even, trying to make eye contact with the blonde. Was she trying to tell him something, or just get a better read on him? She didn't much know herself. That's when the little spider came out. Was everything about this little guy this cute? Strangely enough, for someone who indulged in as much pink and ribbons as she did (though her dress was a cloudy white affair today), she found things like insects fascinating. The grotesque could always be made...gentle. You could always find the good in the bad; she liked jumping spiders the best. Though...that was weird expression for a plush toy. Emiya's guess was very astute; it seemed almost custom made with the way it was shaped. She was about to settle herself in for the chess match before: Rustle.Rustle, rustle. Slowly, Keiko turned to her bag to listen to Vulcan. Obviously, he wanted something. As he spoke, it never ceased to amaze her how his volume was controlled like a nob, his voice was still this sort of metal echoey baritone but so incredibly quiet. "Keiko, there's one here." Huh. Well. I guess with something that cute, no one questions it. How lucky. Ironically, Vulcan also thought this, having to be locked away in a bag or in the undercarriages of cars. You can't handwave a cog with a face. Though this was somewhat worrying to her, as she turned back to face the board. Already a few moves have been made. Emiya looked like he might've lied about being rusty, his moves were good, but Hideo seemed to be keeping pace. While this game was similar to her strategy video games, she enjoyed the extra layer of picking one's army. The romance options were a bonus. She looked intently at the little darling sitting on the table and brought a hand up to her bangs to make a curtain between her and the blonde, like she was fixing her hair. In that moment, she gave a wink. Hideo wasn't alone like she had first thought. "Well, yeah," he responded to Toshiro's question with little hesitation. "My brother gave her to me as a gift a few days ago. He said she was made just for me, so yeah, I guess you can say she was custom-made. It's really nice that he did that for me - I don't think he's ever gotten something custom-made for me before."
That wasn't a complete lie either. Honestly, he had no idea how a card could create a living creature like that, let alone how Kara found something like that in the first place. But there she was, in the flesh, made just for him.
Or was it in the data? He was told "digimon" stood for "digital monster", which meant she was made out of data instead of meat, though that explanation just confused him. She felt real to him.
He quietly noted the names of the two books they other two talked about. Macbeth, Frankenstein. He heard about those too books, the latter more than the former. Maybe he could find a version of them that he could read at his school library, or just get someone else to read it to him.
He heard Toshiro place down one of his pieces, and then he said something about Pawn to E-3? Hideo had a confused look on his face for a moment before the revelation hit him: he was referring to the positions on the chess board itself.
"Thanks for letting me know where you moved it," he said, smiling. It would make it much easier to know where everything was instead of having to feel for them every move. Kind of like how it usually went when he played with his sister.
So that meant he moved the pawn in front of his...king? Just like he did? That must've meant he was right about starting off with giving his queen some freedom first. So, he really was going against someone that knew what they were doing. Good! That'd just make the game all the more fun.
And so, their game truly commenced. The two made their moves - careful not to rush headlong at each other, focusing on setting themselves up into the proper positions. Neither had lost any pieces yet. Any moment now, they'd start trading off pieces. He just had to make sure he was getting Toshiro's stronger pieces before he lost his own - and unfortunately, it seemed like the older boy was in a better position than he was.
Still, it didn't mean he couldn't recover. It was only the start of the game.
Though his focus wasn't completely on the game itself: in-between moves, he'd take a chunk of the cookie the girl gave him and ate it, or take a sip of the milk she left for him. He swore he heard a metallic noise coming from where the girl was sitting too, and the way it sounded, it was like a robot speaking from one of those shows he listened to, but he couldn't discern exactly what it was saying. Maybe he was just hearing things.
If all they did was play this game without speaking, then it was going to be boring. Thankfully, he had a conversation topic in mind.
"The last English book I got to read was Beowulf. It's a pretty good book, though it's kinda sad what happens at the end with it. I can't believe they wrote something so good so long ago. Did either of you guys read that one?" Kojima Keiko , Toshiro Emiya , @one more person » made by wizzCurrent Game Status

"Frankenstein? Ah, I haven't really had a chance to read the original book." He admitted, leaning back on his seat and stretching his arms and spine with a grunt, air pockets popping along his spine as he did.. Unfortunately, it didn't figure in the little curriculum of books set aside by his parents.
Probably because it didn't sound boring enough for a growing child. Probably would have actually entertained him and stuff. Unacceptable. "Maybe I'll check it out."
Maybe, but probably not. He probably didn't have it in him to read an entire book just out of curiosity. "Or not." He yawned, elbows propping themselves onto the table and head onto both awaiting palms. He blinked slowly, looking clearly sleepy.
Hideo spoke. Apparently, Toshiro had nailed it right on the head. Nice.
"Your brother is very talented. That plush looks like it would be very popular." He complimented, deciding not to comment on the plush's constipated expression. "And it's not a problem." He said in response to the boy's thanks.
The following few moves were nothing to write home about. They were playing it safe, seeing what the other would do, never really gambling too much with their more valuable pieces.
Never the less, Toshiro found himself gaining a slight advantage, a few, not too valuable pieces falling in his grasp. Pawns were essentially foot soldiers, but the fewer there were on the field, the more freely his own pieces could move.
It didn't take long for idle chatter to start; he guessed the game alone wasn't all that interesting for Hideo. "Beowulf? Didn't really read the book, but I do know the gist of it." He had seen the character mentioned in enough games to grow curious and do a quick google search.
"Never been a fan of books where the main character dies, I must admit." He admitted, shrugging his shoulders. Pity, because most of the books he had been forced to read to learn english seemed to end with a dead main character. "Honestly made learning english even more of a pain; I swear Shakespeare some sort of personal kill quota to meet, because I can't remember a single main characters that actually survived."

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Just watching Emiya made Keiko sleepy, eyes half open but still with that intense gaze at the chessboard, but every so often coming up to the spider. Hideo was astoundingly poker-faced when he mentioned his brother. Perhaps that's who you belong to? Did this little precious thing just borrow you so he wouldn't be alone? Her organization didn't look for ones so young, so Keiko had originally assumed that there weren't any, or at least so few and far between that seeing any of them would be a very rare occurrence; these questions she asked herself were not unfounded. Hideo's board visualization was something masterful; he took very little time to feel around the board to see where the pieces were. As the game sped up, he kept pace, even with all the movements being called aloud by Emiya. Both seemed to have a better mind than either one of them cared to admit. Humility, a trait she herself had become more familiar with and learned to respect. At the mention of Beowulf, and moreso that this young charge had read its entirety, her jaw almost fell slack. The story, while simple, would go off on tangents and diatribes for pages upon pages; this boy must've had the patience of a saint. She too had read it, but could never stick with it for several hours of a day. "I had, when I was in the hospital. Honestly, it could get a little winded at times, but I did enjoy it."The wind started to pick up to a moderate breeze as the conversation began to slow to a much more cerebral conversation. "Shakespeare is very well known for being the blood baron of the English language. Alot of his characters are cursed with flaws that often undo their entire lives, ending with a tragic end. His comedies are a lot more fun; I recommend Much Ado About Nothing. That one's my favorite."As she sat up, she let her eyes drift around to look at everyone else about their business. Walking dogs, typing up papers, playing games on the wide open green. This was...intensely relaxing. Hideofound himself blushing on behalf of his brother for Toshiro's compliment. "I'll let him know you said that when he gets back!" he said. "She's supposed to be one-of-a-kind, so she's someone I'm not gonna let out of my sight!"He was blissfully unaware that he just referred to Kuki as a person instead of a toy, instead reveling in the self-satisfaction of his pun.The game didn't start in Hideo's favor, with him being the first to lose some of his pawns. However, he was slowly able to even out his losses - even managing to take one of Toshiro's rooks, though doing so left one of his bishops in a precarious position. His opponent speaking out where he moved each of his pieces made it so much easier to keep track of what was going on.It wasn't every day that he got to discuss literature with other people. Especially people that didn't immediately ask "how could you read a book if you can't see?". "The only Shakespeare books I've read are Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream." He paused for a brief moment as he recalled what happened in those books. "I guess the first one kinda proves your point, but I don't think anyone died in the other one. Does he really keep killing off his characters in his other books?"With that pause, he realized she had mentioned something else that piqued his interest. "Wait. You said you read Beowulf at 'the hospital', right?" he parroted, taking a short reprieve from the board game. With the sound of the wheels right before she spoke to him, he could only assume she was in some kind of wheelchair. "Did something happen to you? Is it why you're-"
He shut his mouth before he finished that statement, his cheeks reddening a little in embarrassment. "In a wheelchair" was what he wanted to end that with, but that would've been really rude of him to ask, as much as he wanted to know why she was in one. Unsure of how to recover from that near-faux pas, his attention went back to the game - it was his move. The uncomfortable look Kuki had on her face ever-so-slowly shifted into a more neutral look. Slowly, subtly, so the other two humans wouldn't notice. She was actually getting interested in watching this game, even if she didn't know what either of them were trying to do. Silently, she cheered her partner on. Kojima Keiko , Toshiro Emiya , @one more person » made by wizzCurrent Game Status

Toshiro held down a snort at Hideo's spirited response, ignoring the choice of wording the boy used to refer to the plush in favor of trying to not laugh too loud at the boy's pun. His shoulders shook in mild mirth as he leaned his head against his palm. "So you've got jokes, huh?"
He was liking the kid a lot, so far. And he was not too bad either. The blonde hummed thoughtfully as he lost a bishop to a silly mistake, a bit glad his old teacher wasn't there to see the fumble. He wouldn't have heard the end of it.
"Nicely done." He complimented as he grasped another piece, humming. He could claim the bishop the boy had left open to taking, but he had a few other moves in mind, and claiming the piece would waste time.
The book discussion continued, and he idly drew parallels between it and a book club as he made his move.
"Blood Baron; how appropriate." He commented with a little grin, shrugging his shoulders in response to the boy's words. Oh right, Hideo couldn't see that.
"I wouldn't know, all the ones I was made to read ended in tragedy." He had learned to just laugh at it after a while. A little dark humor didn't hurt anyone. While he thought this, Hideo proceeded to make what Toshirou considered a rather ironic faux pas.
"A bit too forward, kiddo." He commented as he shifted his gaze lazily over the table, eyes casually rolling over the doll-
"Huh." He muttered, tilting his head to the side as he stared at the arachnid plush, leaning forward just slightly, eyes squinting at it.
Where did the constipated expression go?
"Huh. Your brother must be even better than I thought." He commented, tilting his head to the side with curiosity.
"How does the doll change facial expressions? Did he install an animatronic's facial skeleton onto it? That must take some skill." Wouldn't it be a bit heavy, though?
Was he looking at a...?
'Don't be silly. Not everything you see is a damn digimon. What are the chances of meeting yet another one anyways?'

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ She understood where Emiya was coming from. Shakespeare's more acclaimed style and writing devices are found in his tragedies. Studying them can be a rough sit, especially to a native Japanese who only just learned English. Old Modern English was rough, but certainly not as bad as actual Old English, which what Beowulf was written in. She pondered for a moment: had this young Japanese boy learned how to interpret Old Eng-no, not even she at that age would've been interested in something so cryptic. She had simply read a translation. "Well, sir..." she pondered for a moment, trying how best to word this, "we only know the fate of Romeo and Juliet, but it's inferred that their warring houses live in peace due to their sacrifice. Tragedy is scattered on the road to some greater happiness." Hideo had been pondering to himself until he asked if something had happened to her. Her mouth hung slightly agape as the air in her lungs froze. That familiar tinge of guilt, cause she knew she'd been caught in a lie. She knew deep down she hadn't found that happiness, at least not yet. To her, though, there was no 'yet'. This chair was her life now. In this chair, behind that console somewhere deep in Shibuya. That small moment felt like years, but when it had only been a second or two of her looking mildly distraught. She then took a gulp and cleared her throat; she had maybe underestimated him again. "Yes, I was in an accident and I can't walk now. But that doesn't stop me from coming outside, now does it?" She said it with a teasing warmth that, if he could've seen her face would've been easily pegged for manufactured. She however, was also tired of people tiptoeing about her chair or any disability. When she said it, it was like a secret the two shared, words of encouragement for a boy at such a pinnacle age. Her attention was drawn back to the blonde and she almost popped out of that chair to see him inspecting it so closely. Maybe she could grab his attention away for a moment. Think fast, Keiko. "If it can move it's face, it might try and bite you if you get too close!" She punctuated it with one slight chuckle. Smooth. Very 'composed'.
