A hand pressed down crumpled banknotes and snapped the change away. It fell back to a side, and the man the side belonged to slowly moved around to the edge of the counter. Behind black lenses he observed the careful process by which the barista yanked an assortment of tubes and domes and filters and mugs, and produced, three minutes later, his cup of coffee. He did not say thank you, and took his beverage, finding a seat in the corner of the room immediately.
Daichi sat down and attempted to position an art-deco styled bookcase between himself and the rest of the room as he sipped at the scalding coffee. He swallowed it without a second thought, feeling it burn its way along his tongue and down his gullet. From inside his yellow raincoat, he produced a wad of half a dozen thin manila envelopes, spreading them out in front of him and steadying his sunglasses.
The Digivice hung heavy in the inside pocket of his jacket. His awareness of it, and the cards, had not been lost on him in the months since he had left the chamber. The titan ignored it, and thumbed through the envelopes, all unmarked, before breathing a quiet, angry sigh. She was the scientist. She was the diplomat. She was the polymath. Why did she make him do the fucking research?
6 SWIPES REMAIN 1. GRAVEYARD - Summons forth a collection of tombstones and decayed trees from the earth for a radius of 500ft. This spooky battleground lasts for a duration of 7 turns, and boosts all statistics of Undead Digimon by +10. 2. EPINEPHRINE - Raises the user's Strength or Athletics by 10 points for 2 turns. 3. SELF-DESTRUCT - All mechanical or robotic summons under the user's control immediately deactivate, and in the turn after use, detonate, dealing Fire AoE damage. If the Digimon is a Rookie, this is tiny damage in a 3ft radius around them. Increase the damage category by one and the radius by 2ft for every level increased. This card can be used more than once in a thread, and does not cost a swipe. 4. GIZUMON S - Summons a Gizumon for 3 turns, which can use PT Laser (deals tiny Absolute damage). 5. GIZUMON S - Summons a Gizumon for 3 turns, which can use PT Laser (deals tiny Absolute damage). 6. HUNTSMAN'S OIL - Change the damage type of any human weapon to that of any Affinity besides Absolute for the remainder of the thread. Irreversible until the thread ends. 7. GOLDEN KATARA W - Human equip only. Requires 10 Athletics. A pair of katara which the user clenches in their fists. Deals low Metal damage by default. Damage category scales with user's Athletics -- each additional 10 points in Athletics above the requirement boosts a damage category, with a cap at 30. These katara will do that amount of damage over one turn, rather than per strike. Lasts 3 turns. 8. ELEMENT CHAMELEON - Shifts a single resist/weakness/null of a target Digimon to a chosen Affinity (except Absolute). Lasts for 5 turns. 9. RECYCLE - Discard 4 cards from your deck and recover 2 that have already been used in the thread. This card does not use up a swipe. 10. PAIN EATER - Tamer and Digimon have become familiar with pain, like an old acquaintance. The next time an enemy is defeated, absorbing its data will replenish fully the Tamer's life force, and a low amount of health for the Digimon. If the enemy absorbed is a higher level than the Digimon, its health will be entirely replenished. 11. CARD JAMMER - Immediately disables use of all Digivice card scanner functions of Digivices in the area for 3 turns, preventing the action of scanning cards during this time. 12. DISARM - Negates the currently active effects of a Weapon or Armor card that was played on an enemy Digimon, destroying the equipment in the process. 13. METAL WOLF CLAW - MetalGarurumon's signature attack. Spew a vapour of air at absolute zero, dealing heavy Water damage in melee range at every direction. Enemies weak to Water will be Frozen for three turns. 14. CELESTIAL ARROW - Angewomon's signature attack. Launch a spear of moderate Light damage at an enemy. Inflicts Virus-attribute Digimon with Fear for three turns if it connects. 15. SPIRAL TWISTER - Biyomon's signature attack. The user sends out a stream of ethereal flames to attack, dealing low Wind/Fire damage and a low chance to Burn for 3 turns. |

❧ she had invited hadezu to this little establishment on a whim, having requested his company in a casual manner. it was a venture to be taken as friends, for she had made the decision to invest more time toward her numerous fellows and comrades. it honestly irked her that she was unfamiliar with a vast majority of the faces which frequented nightmare's nest. rosaline felt as though she should be at least somewhat familiar with most - yet she had neglected her peers in favor of focusing on completion of the various assignments that she had been given. "a vanilla latte," she ordered. upon entrance she would request her drink, idle as she shot curious little glances in hadezu's direction. the big fellow clashed awkwardly with this particular setting, and the corners of her lips would twitch upward as she derived a considerable amount of amusement from this. "size, ma'am?" the barista asked. "mmm. i'm gonna go with tall," rosaline replied. "name?" "rosa." the barista produced a marker, scribbled down her name on the disposable cup and then uttered the price. cash would be produced, exchanged, and rosaline would go about visually selecting a seat for both herself and her companion. it wasn't terribly busy, but the most appealing seat - one situated right by a large window - had managed to capture her focus. eventually, her drink was completed, and the little female would cast hadezu a pleased look as she grasped at the heated beverage. "let's sit over there," she instructed. "c'mon." 1 - SC02 - STEEL SWORD W Calls forth a steel longsword for either a Tamer's or Digimon's use. Increases Strength (or Athletics) by +2 for a duration of 3 turns until the weapon fades away.

You'd certainly never expect someone like Hadezu to be found in a place like this, and typically he wouldn't dare step out of the shadows where he claimed his territory, but he couldn't reject an offer to "grab some coffee" with Rosaline Corzett, a fellow member of the Nightmare faction. Contrary to a segment of the gang that hated his presence, Rosaline was probably the nicest and most tolerant girl he had met so far, which caused her to look even more beautiful in his mind. Afraid that he'd do something to turn her against him as well, Hadezu would keep his distance when he could, or stutter in his words, hoping that whatever light she saw within him would never fade. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at it, especially considering he decided to show up to the cafe in his combat gear, still reeking of a putrid smell that would undoubtedly be noticed by anyone in a three-meter radius. Once Hadezu greeted Rosaline, they headed inside and she proceeded to order her drink, to which he secretly began to panic as he had no idea that he'd be facing such an difficult challenge. The barista waited as his thoughts scrambled for a second, her expression mixed between impatience and disgust, before he glanced over to Rosaline and finally made a decision. "Uhh.. a vanilla latte.", he said confidently, as if that wasn't entirely inspired by what she had already ordered. "And... size?", she asked, but she already knew what he was gonna say. Hadezu glanced back at Rosaline a second time, as if he she was the one who had the answer to the barista's question, before he returned his attention to the barista and spoke again. "Uh... tall." The barista punched in some buttons and gave him the total, the bandit lackadaisical response time being due to not being familiar with buying things, but moreso just stealing them. Despite his dirty appearance, he at the very least had some money, pulling a clump of balled-up paper yen and coins and slamming them on the counter in front of the barista, who stared at it confused, shifting her eyes between him and the pile before she just gathered the amount that was due from it herself. Luckily, the one thing he didn't need assistance with was his name, and after completing the order and grasping his drink, Hadezu followed behind Rosaline, albeit sluggishly, to where they'd be seated. There was something nice about the warmth in his hand from the coffee, Hadezu's eyes focused on the beverage as he observed the steam rise from it's mouth. The chatter of the other customers drew his attention next as he scanned as much as he could: a man and woman in business suits, a younger female who typed away vigorously at her computer, and even an older man who sat in the corner with a fierce grimace. Consumed by his paranoia, Rosaline ceased to exist for that moment, and unless she was to say something to break his concentration, the awkward silence surely wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.

❧ she suppressed the natural urge to giggle, though a little snort accompanied by a tremble of her lips had occurred as she eyed her companion. he was uncomfortably situated in a scenario that required a certain level of normalcy. she had hoped she would be granted the opportunity to witness him don 'civilian' attire. but it appeared as though the youth insisted on remaining in clothing that suited a ruffian whom inhabited the streets of japan. thankfully, rosaline didn't find such a detail to be off-putting. it actually roused the 'need to know' aspects of her personality. 'i don't know much about hadezu, so it shouldn't hurt to ask a few questions." rosaline took a sip, flinching a little as she noted the liquid's temperature. her lips stung a little, and she would lick them in an absent fashion before beginning to speak. "hadezu?" he was distracted - this much was clear. his gaze had wandered to take in his immediate surroundings, and she observed this curiously for a few short moments. eventually, she would reach out, her delicate fingers moving to brush against his callous and much larger ones. "hadezu, how have your missions been coming along? have you been making enough?" she kept her volume level, her tone revealing nothing in particular as she pulled her hand away. the young woman's eyebrows were slightly raised now, an inquisitive look settling upon her features. The greasy bandit stood out in the cafe like a giant purple elephant, which would cause anyone to question why a man of his... roughness would dare allow himself to be seen in public, but truthfully, the answer was quite simple: he wanted to be alongside Rosaline. Yeah, Hadezu was crushing, and hard. You could ask him and he'd pretend like he has no idea what the emotion of love means, but it doesn't take a psychologist to diagnose that he was suffering from infatuation with the lavender-clad woman. Back on the streets of Kamagasaki, the type of females Hadezu encountered certainly weren't of her breed, ruffians and butches that typically acted more like men than Hadezu himself, something that was sort of a survival tactic to blend into the extremely dangerous slums. For many years, beneath his own cloak of masculinity and animosity, he had tucked away his true self, one who had become quite weak and frail, a version of himself that felt attracted to a woman who could be both affectionate and protective of him. "Hadezu?" Like a wrecking ball smashing through glass, the paranoia subsided, his eyelids flickering for a moment as he reconnected with Rosaline, remembering that he was within her company. He remained silent as Rosaline continued speaking after regaining his attention, tenaciously gripping the warm beverage in his hand without moving so much as an inch, never once taking a sip. During his inspection of the room, he concluded that everything seemed to be copacetic... except he couldn't help but feel uneasy about the silver-haired man in the corner, who sat there quietly with a stern expression on his face. "That man...", he distressed, squinting his eyes as he bounced his gaze from the person in question back to Rosaline, "...something wrong." Hadezu's anxiety remained peaked as he began to tap a finger repeatedly against the caffeinated drink's cup, the mention of Ryuk producing interest in whether his ghostly teammate was somewhere nearby in case his suspicions were on point. Despite Hadezu's recurring display of arrogance, being proud to do things himself, he'd be even more of a fool than he already was if he were to under-appreciate his relationship with his digital partner in times of conflict. "Eh... missions, piece of cake... but Hadezu is bored... no fun without Rosaline." Now, he wasn't exactly a ladies' man, but you couldn't deny that there was sincerity in his words: things were always better, especially for the rest of his teammates, when she was with him. "Ryuk is always... 'around'... Ryuk does what Ryuk wants... Hadezu doesn't care." Not the traditional partnership, Hadezu allowed Ryuk to do as he pleased, who never truly was too far astray from the tamer. If something were to go down, he'd know, and so, he always kept his distance, utilizing the concept of staying out of sight and out of mind occasionally to live his own adventurous life.

It burned its way down its gullet, searing the inside. The heat was a satisfying catharsis he could always rely on. Not pleasant, but somehow necessary. He folded through the Polaroids of the last envelope, and committed a face, a name, and a fleeting mirage of the creature to memory. Five targets.
Daichi had seen the girl come in behind him, and thought little of it. It wasn't til the boy with the bandage strapped around his head entered that he made a note of the duo. The pair took a booth far enough away from him not to be a concern. The boxer kept himself aware of everybody in a public space like this, but tried not to pay attention to anyone who wasn't obviously following him.
It wasn't til the distinctive eyes between ribbons of swaddled dressing flickered towards him. Daichi caught a passing glance. It was all he needed. It was justification enough. He folded away the last envelope, tucked it, and the others, into an inside jacket pocket, and grasped the empty biodegradable coffee cup.
Daichi seemed at first to make a beeline for the exit. Halfway through the cafe, he dropped the cup into a recycling bin and pivoted sharply. Another few steps put him inches from the boy with the bandages and the girl. The titan flicked his gaze down in single motion towards the boy, glaring steel behind the tinted lenses of his sunglasses.
"Do I know you?"

❧ hadezu spoke of his desire to partake in her company, and she wholeheartedly appreciated his honesty. the young woman's cheeks had even warmed slightly, taking on a faded pink hue as she forced herself to take a sip of her hot drink. "just focus on me," she said. the young woman had assumed he was merely suffering through a bout of anxiety as the fellow nightmare's gaze focused on a man. rosaline hoped that her words and tone would distract hadezu fully, pulling him further into the beginnings of a conversation so that they could both relax. unfortunately, the mood would abruptly shift - leaving the young woman reeling. the stranger's approach served as an unexpected turn. 'what,' she thought, dumbly. rosaline had actually been in the midst of replying to her companion when the larger male had barked out his question. he presently stood over the pair, an aura of dominance surrounding him as he demanded a response. the young woman felt herself shrink within the confines of her padded seat, genuinely startled by the man's sudden appearance. she would then take in a sharp breath before shooting hadezu a glance, her surprised expression shifting to one of bewilderment. "i don't think you do," she said. "Just focus on me." Hadezu couldn't help but to relieve himself of one more glance toward the silver-haired man before he decided to give Rosaline the attention she requested. Ever since the day he both lost his parents and started living on the streets, distrust of those around him has become heavily ingrained into his psyche, to where he's attacked countless people at the mere assumption that they were out to remove him from this world. However, the suspicious man in question that he'd eyed several times now would've eventually become an afterthought... until he caught a glimpse of the large, foreboding figure begin to move toward them out of his peripheral. There was definitely no going back now. His concentration locked completely on the man, the frailty of Hadezu's mind started to rear it's ugly face, illusions of demonic attributes such as horns or gleaming red eyes flickering in and out of existence with every step as he came closer and closer. "T-The demon...?!", Hadezu thought frantically, as his questioning of where Ryuk could be became even more troubling. If there was anyone who'd be able to make sense of "the demon's" sudden appearance, it'd be his ghostly friend. The true motivation behind Hadezu's anxiety was his fear of death; not to be confused with the death of others, but his own death. Inspired by Ryuk that if he wanted to survive, he'd have to live by the motto "destroy or be destroyed", Hadezu has become extremely aggressive and combative to the point that he is no longer fit for society. "Do I know you?", the man said as he finally came to stand before them, his physicality towering over them like a statue. Unable to cope with the belittling aura that the man possessed (most likely due to the fact that he was so damn muscular, and they were both sitting while he was standing), Hadezu shot up from his seat to confront him, his fists clenched and his temperature rising. Hadezu's right eye even began to twitch as he glared into the man's shades, a low growl rumbling beneath his breath. "Hadezu doesn't like old man... Hadezu wants to punch old man's face in!" There was no inhibition in the tone and volume of his voice, Hadezu's threat resonating throughout the cafe, which caused several other citizens to gasp and watch in terror. The audience grew quiet as they awaited Daichi's response. Though it was smart of Rosaline to remain calm, trying to persuade the stranger to leave their company, Hadezu's unease had already reached a dangerous peak, to where not even her presence would be able to pacify him. In his mind, the silver-haired man was the same kind of disguised evil that had been haunting him his entire life, both inside and out of his dreams, With his digivice and card stash hidden in the front pockets of his flak jacket, Hadezu guardedly anticipated Daichi's next move, prepared to do whatever was necessary to protect both himself and Rosaline.

"Maybe it's better if you shut the fuck up." He growled, before turning back to the boy. The vague semblance of threats that followed seemed to be prefaced by something. Hadezu? What the hell was that? Was he talking about himself in the third person?
"Are you retarded or something?" Daichi sneered at him. "The fuck are you talking about yourself like that for?" The man shook his head, and took a step back. He went to open his mouth to speak, before stopping himself, raising his hands up, and promptly walking towards the door. The titan was seemingly retreating.
It wasn't until he reached the exit that he stopped himself, pulled the door shut, and quietened the other customers and staff. A few had already been looking at himself, this Hadezu character, and the girl. Now they all were. Calmly, Daichi strolled up towards the counter, circled around it, and let himself in through the hatch.
Next to the filter jugs, the larger, chromed machines, and the cafetieres, there was a simple kettle, full to the brim with water. It was already warm. Daichi thumbed down on the switch and waited as it begun to heat and whistle. A spotty, nineteen-year old duty manager approached him and went to open his mouth.
Daichi shook his head. The boy retreated.
The behemoth kept his eyes transfixed on the kettle, making sure not to look towards Hadezu or the girl. He allowed himself just the faintest makings of a smile, thinking about how much fun this was going to be.

HUNTSMAN'S OIL - Change the damage type of any human weapon to that of any Affinity besides Absolute for the remainder of the thread. Irreversible until the thread ends. 7. GOLDEN KATARA W - Human equip only. Requires 10 Athletics. A pair of katara which the user clenches in their fists. Deals low Metal damage by default. Damage category scales with user's Athletics -- each additional 10 points in Athletics above the requirement boosts a damage category, with a cap at 30. The next time an enemy is defeated, absorbing its data will replenish fully the Tamer's life force, and a low amount of health for the Digimon. If the enemy absorbed is a higher level than the Digimon, its health will be entirely replenished. 11. CARD JAMMER - Immediately disables use of all Digivice card scanner functions of Digivices in the area for 3 turns, preventing the action of scanning cards during this time. 12. DISARM - Negates the currently active effects of a Weapon or Armor card that was played on an enemy Digimon, destroying the equipment in the process. 13. METAL WOLF CLAW - MetalGarurumon's signature attack. Spew a vapour of air at absolute zero, dealing heavy Water damage in melee range at every direction. ❧ the young woman visibly bristled at the retort, her dull crimson eyes fixed on the older 'gentleman' as he veered his focus toward her now riled companion. rosaline was tempted to allow hadezu free reign, her attention shifting toward her presently angered companion as he proceeded to shout and draw the focus of those occupying the little shop. she was witnessing the once tranquil mood shrivel, and felt her irritation only swell as the dark-skinned male insulted hadezu. rosaline's gaze then flitted about, taking in the sight of multiple individuals whom openly eyed the trio. "hadezu," she said. she forced herself to remain calm - her words meant to be soothing. "we're not here to fight," she continued, pausing for only a moment. the totebag she possessed - the one that had been deposited at her feet and underneath the table - wiggled slightly. the digimon which rested within its comfortable confines strained its ears, having detected that something was amiss. "we're here to spend time with one another - and he's not worth the trouble." she would peer at hadezu with a stern expression on her face, unwilling to allow for the situation to spiral wildly out of control. 'we need to leave,' she decided. too many gazes had shifted in either their direction or the direction of the older male's as he moved away from the pair.
