Strictly independent since her childhood years, Ami doesn't let anyone boss her around. This doesn't make her a hothead though, fully capable of calculated decisions without collapsing into fits of rage.
She has no problems in entering social situations, although this might also present itself as a fault: her concept of personal space is rather loose, and she might seem a bit too pushy to people with a more introverted outlook... So, to most of the people she hangs around with. This is Ami when she's on the casual, simply chilling and hanging out...[break][break]

... At work, she's completely different. Incredibly quiet, rather introverted-feeling and extremely obedient to a near fault, Haru's work environment has forced her to take a more subservient facade whenever she enters a serious situation, such as work or school. Of course she resents this incredibly on the inside, but she's mastered the art of acting enough to not let it slip through. Recently the facade has made her more and more stressed as she's gotten more and more popular, increasing her workload,
tempting her to act out by joining the local gang of nightmares. She's still a calculated, calm person... But even those kind of people need to let out some steam sometimes.

You've heard the story a few times, for sure: some weeb thinks Japan's the greatest thing ever since hot pockets and moves there, only to get incredibly disappointed by just how bad it all actually can be. And then he moves away, and some other schmuck takes his place. The cycle's well known, but one man broke that cycle: Ami's father, Marcelo Ribeiro. 100% Brazilian, Ribeiro still managed to cling onto the society that pushed him away heavily, managing through teaching Portuguese in a specialized high school, eventually falling in love with Haru Tanaka, Ami's mother and fellow teacher. The two eventually married and eloped, with Ami growing up in this family as half Japanese, half Brazilian.[break][break]

Needless to say, her life was never easy, especially with the darker tone of skin she inherited from her father. While she wasn't bullied, Ami didn't have many friends until she entered high school, where she found an avenue she could truly shine in: modeling. Many other hafu's had already entered the industry as a sort of exotic flavor to the oft monotone Japanese fashion scene, so she joined in. Although she did well thanks to her looks and found a place in society that she felt somewhat content with, a fact didn't change: she was still half a outsider to the society she considered her own.[break][break]

Something like that drives even the calmest and goodest of people to lash out. It started as small things, mostly hanging out past curfew, going to karaoke, all the stuff young people her age try and do to lash out at society. But one night, on an especially late trip out, Ami found something that'd truly let her try and let out some frustrations: her own partner and a digivice. While she hadn't been involved with the Digimon craze much thus far, she quickly read up on the rules of the game and begun to invest in the cards, her goal clear: to finally get a bit even. Somehow.
