This city of lights was rife with evil. Devimon could nearly taste the sin that festered in the hearts of these wretched pustules called 'humans', how it coagulates and blackens them over time like a rich, flavorful wine. His arrival here was an unexpected turn of events, but the sheer abundance of wickedness and corruption in this alien world gave this fallen Digimon all the more incentive to, as these flesh puppets have taken to saying in these very moments, 'take in the sights'. One particular presence stands out to Devimon, who stands perched and perfectly balanced atop a tower that overlooked Shibuya's famous Scrable Crossing. It is enough to make him practically salivate with hunger. Instantly, his mind attunes itself to the discord of sonic frequencies and airwaves, scanning every possible channel, every piece of trash these humans called 'technology' for the precise location of that exquisitely foul source of negative energy, confident he was in for a remarkable feast. The dark lord closes his eyes, and grins wickedly. There it is, that unmistakable inner scream... It was the cry of rage, unbridled and elemental, barely constrained within the electronic confines of the feeble device that resonated with an unmistakable power, a power that Devimon has craved for far too long, and one that has now, in this very moment, revealed itself to him. A Digivice. Devimon snickers softly, and as he does so, the vile Champion emits a faint pulse of his own malignant energy through the atmosphere, guiding himself between the myriad access points available to him, until he captures the instrument's unique wavelength in a short, disruptive burst of high-pitched static. Nothing permanent of course--merely to grab the fool's attention. What follows next takes on a more disturbing turn as the screen glitches uncontrollably, spelling out a correspondence to the Digivice's owner in garbled, red typeface: I̲̟̼̲̪̱̟̰͎̩̥̹͇͙͘͟ ͙̣͙̲̘̭̣̼̗͉̤̪̹͜͝Ṣ̪̻̝̺͍̮̖̀É̵̵̴͙̥̗̫̘̱̞̫̫̺̰̠̥̙̕E͞͝҉̩̯̲ ̶̧̛̪̠̖̪ͅY̵̭͔̞̬̝̫͘Ơ̶̵͎̘̣̹̮̼͝Ù̢͚͚̦̟͉̱͔̻͔̱̲̣̖ͅͅ,̼̝͓̟͙̺̣͈͕͖͇̟̪̀̕͝ ̤̼̘̺̬̮͍̩̠͢͠͡Ḩ̶͕̬̗̻̼̣̳̭̻͓̞̩̣͘͟U̶̧͉̞͕̲̤͙͙͈͓͙̙͙͇̠̭̳͉̫̬̕͜͞M̸̛͖̟̮͈̖̦̗̣͟A̸̵̧̩̰͙̤̞̻̖͇̞͠N̶̬͚͉̠̰̼̲͠ From atop his metallic pedestal, the great demon of darkness spreads his enormous leathery wings to their full span, and in the blink of an eye, his body appears to dissolve into nothingness, leaving behind only an ominous, echoed cackle.
So, the hunt begins.
DAICHI KUMO ● for this blue card quest, Challenge mode is enabled. Your first post may be spent detailing your response to Devimon's interference. defeat will result in a 500 byte and a 10 post reduction. if champion form is obtained and defeat still occurs, only 250 bytes will be deducted instead.
Challenge: devimon has marked both DAICHI KUMO and subject rho with a curse that inflicts irreducible dark affinity damage to them equal to the result of any attack roll they make if it is divisible by 6.

I SEE YOU.
"The fuck...?"
Daichi slammed the Digivice against the alleyway wall in frustration. It prized an indeterminate, unimportant fibreglass panel loose. He checked the screen again. It was still garbled and flickering. The compass ring whirled around at a completely unpredictable rate, changing direction and speed with every passing split-second.
"Rho!" Daichi barked, and beckoned for the Dracmon to come up behind him. The compass ring begun to slow, albeit unnoticed by the titan. "Rho! Goddamn it..." He shook the Digivice aggressively next to his ear, listening out for anything he couldn't hear. The compass ring started to stabilise. "Rho...!" With the last call for the monster, he spun on his heel, ready to--
The Dracmon was stood on the hood of his Dodge, staring up towards the moon, completely gripped. The pale white cast upon him as his semi-intangible form crackled and shifted, the emergent digital proteins somewhat distorted. A few rays of light pierced through spots where his code was not entirely completed, casting white spots down on the windscreen. Daichi's commands were lost on him.
The behemoth raised the Digivice, and watched as the compass ring stabilised. It fell still in the exact direction Rho was staring; zero-point-degree perfect. With the crescent behind it, one skyscraper stood out from the rest. Orange street lights at the mouth of the alleyway carved out the beginning of their path towards it, like little Dorothy's yellow brick road.
"There's something out there," Daichi growled. Rho turned and angled his grin towards the boxer, silently questioning. The behemoth nodded at him, and gripped his own face in a vicious, triumphant smile. "Get in the car."
6 SWIPES REMAIN 1. GRAVEYARD - Summons forth a collection of tombstones and decayed trees from the earth for a radius of 500ft. This spooky battleground lasts for a duration of 7 turns, and boosts all statistics of Undead Digimon by +10. 2. EPINEPHRINE - Raises the user's Strength or Athletics by 10 points for 2 turns. 3. SELF-DESTRUCT - All mechanical or robotic summons under the user's control immediately deactivate, and in the turn after use, detonate, dealing Fire AoE damage. If the Digimon is a Rookie, this is tiny damage in a 3ft radius around them. Increase the damage category by one and the radius by 2ft for every level increased. This card can be used more than once in a thread, and does not cost a swipe. 4. GIZUMON S - Summons a Gizumon for 3 turns, which can use PT Laser (deals tiny Absolute damage). 5. GIZUMON S - Summons a Gizumon for 3 turns, which can use PT Laser (deals tiny Absolute damage). 6. HUNTSMAN'S OIL - Change the damage type of any human weapon to that of any Affinity besides Absolute for the remainder of the thread. Irreversible until the thread ends. 7. GOLDEN KATARA W - Human equip only. Requires 10 Athletics. A pair of katara which the user clenches in their fists. Deals low Metal damage by default. Damage category scales with user's Athletics -- each additional 10 points in Athletics above the requirement boosts a damage category, with a cap at 30. These katara will do that amount of damage over one turn, rather than per strike. Lasts 3 turns. 8. ELEMENT CHAMELEON - Shifts a single resist/weakness/null of a target Digimon to a chosen Affinity (except Absolute). Lasts for 5 turns. 9. RECYCLE - Discard 4 cards from your deck and recover 2 that have already been used in the thread. This card does not use up a swipe. 10. PAIN EATER - Tamer and Digimon have become familiar with pain, like an old acquaintance. The next time an enemy is defeated, absorbing its data will replenish fully the Tamer's life force, and a low amount of health for the Digimon. If the enemy absorbed is a higher level than the Digimon, its health will be entirely replenished. 11. CARD JAMMER - Immediately disables use of all Digivice card scanner functions of Digivices in the area for 3 turns, preventing the action of scanning cards during this time. 12. DISARM - Negates the currently active effects of a Weapon or Armor card that was played on an enemy Digimon, destroying the equipment in the process. 13. A slender, black form glides across the mirror-like surfaces of every window it passes, too fast for the naked eye to detect. His movements are equal to the shadows themselves, always one step ahead of his prey, simply waiting for them to fall into his intricately hidden web of deceit. Halogen lights and flashing neon signs, products of human arrogance at its apex, mask Devimon's presence completely, yet another example of just how closely the heart of evil could resonate within one's environment. The fallen Digimon bares a malevolent smile, he recognizes a disturbance close to his quarry, able to discern the presence as a Digimon yet simultaneously fascinated by how... erratic its data was. As though it had been tampered with. Was it a result of his soon-to-be-victim's exquisite anger boiling within? Or were more insidious methods applied to achieve this state? One way or another, he would get a taste of this power for himself. Another, more forceful pulse of evil energy bursts from Devimon to cause the entire street's electrical systems to go haywire, sending the traffic lights into a blinking frenzy of reds, yellows and greens while street lamps and digital signage flickered and fizzled with chaotic static. The Scramble Crossing had been reduced to a complete technological standstill, one that would certainly make headlines due to how renowned and well-traveled the area was. Then, instant blackness grabs hold of Shibuya. The sounds of panic erupt from all sides as people scramble frantically to find cover from the sudden outage, unsure of what was going on or why it was happening to begin with. It was all part of Devimon's master plan, for even he could accurately surmise that direct confrontation would be an unwise course of action to take. Like any true hunter, the first step was always to confuse and disorient his prey, make it impossible for him to gather his bearings long enough to react accordingly. Not even the moon in the sky could cast enough light to penetrate the cityscape, now washed over in melancholic shades of blue and grey as the hurried shouts of the public began to die down. It was only a matter of time before the emergency backup power would kick on, but it was all Devimon needed. Ha ha ha ha ha...Devimon is nowhere to be seen, though his voice carries on the wind like a virus to be transmitted, burrowing its way into the ears and mind as the worm wriggles and crawls through the mud. It grates like nails on a chalkboard, penetrates like sharpened claws attempting to dig into flesh. Ha ha ha ha ha... His target draws nearer. Devimon can taste the man's fury rising, threatening to burst at any moment. Good. Follow the golden thread like the angry little hornet you are, for soon you, your partner, and your rage will make a most delectable meal. Ha ha ha ha ha...

[attr="class","tbox"] [attr="class","uh"] BURN LIKE WILDFIRE WIPE THAT SMILE RIGHT OFF YOUR FUCKING FACE | Daichi yanked the car into fifth as he approached Scramble Crossing, flicking his eyes between the road and the Digivice in his palm. Rho scrabbled in the passenger footwell. Even a few minutes after midnight, the crossing was as busy as ever. The streetlights cast a healthy orange glow over the empty tarmac before him. The crossing whistled in the distance.
Silently, everything cut out in an instant as Daichi passed the first set of lights. The black descent was heralded with a symphony of horns and squeals and crashes. The boxer could see nothing; he frantically pawed at the handbrake and spun the car around with a whine. The Dracmon in the passenger seat was launched from side to side, crackling in protest as the car slammed to a halt.
Daichi flung the door open and checked his Digivice. Rho scrambled out beside him, his head still rolling as he recovered himself at his Tamer's heels. The red compass cursor was rolling in every direction at once, the screen was blurring every half-second again. He shook the device, this time, to no avail.
The behemoth cast a glance over the crossing, submerged now in pitch-black darkness. Trails of smoke rose from collided cars, people were running in every direction, U-turning before the crossing. In seconds, chaos had gripped the entirety of this small cross-section of Shibuya, people running in every direction. It was as he stared at the ensuing mess of limbs and flesh and blood and steel that he heard it.
Ha ha ha ha ha...
Laughter. Daichi spun, looking for the source -- left, right, above, below, forwards, backwards -- the creature was nowhere to be seen. He pocketed the Digivice and took on a fighting stance, sharply nudging the little vampire with his foot. The boxer steeled his gaze and stared out over the crossing, waiting for the very first sign that something beyond was out there, ready to descend upon them. The beat of a wing, the flourish of a talon, the unnatural glow of a digital eye.
"Get ready." Daichi told his Digimon. "Whatever it is, it's coming."

A third and final pulse of malign energy, one far less forceful than the last but significantly broader in its overall range, seemingly bled from the center of the Scramble Crossing, radiating out as a pearlescent, shifting bubble of sheer black. Perhaps an extra layer of fear was needed to convince this fool who he was dealing with, Devimon surmised, using this newest demonstration to blanket the area in an anti-sonic field, reducing the screams of the terrified civilians to something the fallen Digimon knew would be far worse on his prey's senses: complete silence. It wouldn't last long, much like the blackout he had just caused, but that was the point: Devimon needed to make his presence known in the most direct way possible, theatrical as it might have appeared to this angry little hot pocket, whose fury seethed and bubbled beneath his skin like rivers of molten rock and metal, nearly ready to erupt with uncontrollable wrath. The negation of all sound causes many fascinating things to occur in humans. Loss of speech comprehension. Difficulties in noise discrimination. Attenuated vocal patterns. Pressure within the ears. But sometimes, a few of these symptoms grow to become more debilitating, especially if they are brought about suddenly and without warning. Those kinds of effects were Devimon's favorite ones. Hahahahaha...! ——Tinnitus, a 'hissing' or 'ringing' in the ears. Vertigo. Disequlibrium. Tympanophonia, the abnormal perception of one's own created sounds and respirations. All of these, and more, were there to create a cocktail of terror specifically designed to prey on the human mind's basest, most primitive fears. The fight or flight instinct was a powerful tool, and one that Devimon's victim seemingly knew well of if he hadn't been already deterred by his threat display. But fear is like shadow: always present wherever one goes, clinging effortlessly to the form without surrendering itself to pointless ideals or trivialities. Two tigers, circling each other fiercely, one stalked by the darkness, and the other, darkness itself. Not even the likes of his pitiful excuse for a Digimon, if it was even considered one at this point, would be enough to keep the Devil away for long. No matter where Daichi Kumo goes, he is never far behind. He is the specter of past, that which haunts his every waking moment spent sober and aware of himself, the issues, the problems he desperately tries to hide beneath his self-created fortress of muscle and bone. They threaten to rise up when he least expects it--just as Devimon's horns begin to protrude from his target's black umbra, followed by the rest of his slender frame--when the human's guard is at his absolute lowest. The fallen angel seems to merge with Daichi's very shadow as though he were part of it. As though he was. Devimon lunges for the human's throat-- --as he does, Shibuya's emergency backup generators kick into power, and the scene explodes with a blinding flash of lights and sounds from all over, as the fallen creature had foreseen in his great plan. Distract and confuse, that was the primary objective for now. There was no physical element to Devimon's initial attack, for it had all been a part of an elaborate psychological set-up, a ruse to open combat with his first of many treacherous techniques, one meant entirely to keep his foe planted right where he wanted him to be. Whether the attack succeeded was another story, but Devimon was nowhere to be found after its execution, having never actually been there to begin with. His harrowing cackle echoes within the shifting chaos that reigns throughout the streets of Shibuya. Hehehehehe...Devimon used Nightmare Lunge against Daichi. Dark/Mental. An illusion that, if successful, inflicts Fear status that lasts for the full duration of the target's next turn. This attack cannot be used consecutively on the same target. aBjVYZRY

Daichi could feel it. Something bristled; and out of nowhere, dark talons flourished and lunged for him in the dark. The boxer backstepped and raised his hackles.
The crossing burst with the piercing orange glow of the streetlamps. Daichi readied himself and spun around, looking for whatever creature was attacking them. Rho bared the glistening white claws of his palms, all four eyes glaring out over the crossing. His presence undulated and crackled with white noise.
Hehehehehe...
"What the fuck are you?" Daichi growled out over the smog and flames of crashed cars. The majority of the civilians had poured out of the crossing; it was their battleground for now. "And what the fuck do you want with me?"
"I swear to God, you keep trying to mess with me, and I'll break you in two, Digimon!" The boxer roared. Over the fading cackle, his bellow echoed, resonating through trees, around flickering traffic lights, and reverberated along the metal sheen of buckled cars. "YOU FUCKED WITH THE WRONG HUMAN!"
