MAVERICK, SEIKO

Seiko has a mind of her own, though she keeps to herself most of the time. She much prefers the company of a camera rather than the company of others, leaving her a bit lacking in the social skills department. While she is a generally nice individual, it is hard to get past her hardened exterior shell in order to fully enjoy her company. She is quick to warm up to others and probably just as frustrated by the process as those trying to get to know her. Outside of that, she's a reliable, loyal friend with puns galore. She has a great sense of humor and often tries to use it to diffuse difficult situations, either socially or physically. It's faily easy to look over Seiko in a crowd, often because she's hiding behind a camera.

Most of her hobbies focus around her strengths, mainly her strength and photography skills. A up-and-coming wildlife photographer, Seiko has an eye for detail and the strength to back it up. Not that she'd try and put herself into a situation where she'd need to back it up. Nah. No thanks. Animals are much easier to deal with instead of humans. It is hard for Seiko to assert herself, so when it does happen it's generally causing distress. Her emotions do run wild though, she just tries to keep things under wraps. She will not tolerate bullying or egos. There's no room for it in Seiko's world. Just the shutter of a camera, the sound of her breathing, and the world around her. Social awkwardness aside, she's a tough individual slowly growing out of her own shell.

There isn't much terribly exciting about Seiko's family. Her mother was a nurse in Atlanta, Georgia when a young Japanese businessman stopped by the clinic. While the air quality was relatively cleaner than Japan, moving still caused strain on the lungs. He'd developed a cough, so Seiko's mother fixed him up. When the man came in with a broken toe a few weeks later, she'd fixed him up as well. When the man asked her mother out on a date, well, she'd fixed him up there as well. Their blossoming relationship, despite cultural differences, sprouted wild and free. After a time, they were married and committed to having a child in the Georgian suburbs.

Thus, Seiko came into the world. Her father took the Maverick name, finding it 'cooler' and 'easier to gain attention' in the Japanese/English business ventures he was into. In trade, they picked a Japanese first name for Seiko. The child never minded, as it was an adorable reminder of her parents trade-off and love. If you were looking for a sad backstory, this is not the character for you.

Seiko was raised in a normal household with both parents and no abuse. There was the occasional marriage scrap, but nothing a bit of time and some TLC couldn't fix. It was a part of every relationship. Instead of concerning herself with her parents, Seiko focused on school. She generally excelled in science and math classes, ringing her decent scholarships when it came time for college. Her hobby of photography netted her enough money to go to a private college where she'd study technical science with a lesser degree in math. It was photography that got her though it though, financially and emotionally. Whenever there was a time she needed to unwind or fall back, her pictures and camera were there.

The degrees slowly wasted away like Seiko when she joined the workforce. When she was 23 she had a well-paying job, a decent apartment... but nothing to 'work' for. She made money, came home, and went to sleep. Rinse and repeat. There was no rhyme or reason to it. She was too exhausted to get anything else done so the feedback loop of adulting got to her. She raised up enough money to travel to Africa for a photography job. Animals. It was there she found her true calling.

Now, at 24, Seiko has traveled to her father's old homeland. Japan. With enough money to start anew, Seiko plans on photographing her way up to the top with animal photography. National Geographic purchased one of her photos already, so their eyes were on her. What strange creatures would she find in Japan?
